Shafaq News / Journalists in Basra province organized Saturday, a pause in front of the journalists' union branch in Basra to protest against preventing the access of information by government agencies and the bad treatment of officials towards the reporters.
The official of the journalist’s union branch in Basra, Haider al-Mansouri told "Shafaq News" that “the journalists Syndicate branch in Basra organized today a protest against preventing the access of information from the journalists by government officials, as well as the ill-treatment of journalists by officials in the province."
He added that, “the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate Muaayad al-Lami participated in this protest with a number of journalists and some satellite channels as well as two MPs from Basra province, Hussein Al -Mansouri, and Jawad al-Bazone".
Basra Governorate Council issued earlier, a resolution providing the right of the Council to sue any media or journalist of publishing information without referring back to the provincial council and the security authorities, even if the journalist was the same eyewitness to the event.
JFO demanded Basra Governorate Council to refer to the permanent Iraqi constitution and abide by it and cancel its decision, adding, "Otherwise, the JFO will have to resort to the federal court to consider the legality of the decision of the provincial council."
