In support and solidarity with the rebelling people of Iraq in the squares of glory and dignity "Sahat Al-Izz Wal Karama"
Translated from Arabic by: Sarmad Saadiddeen
The Constituent Assembly of the Central Committee of Coordination to support the uprising of the Iraqi people declares the emergence of its independent national gathering. What brings us together is our belonging to the unified Iraq and its united people, and our absolute denunciation of the occupation and all its consequences. We feel very strongly about the degenerated condition that Iraq has reached in all the aspects of political, economic, administrative and cultural fields, the regression in services and infrastructures, and above all the violations of human rights and degradation of human dignity during the past ten years.
Our immediate goal is to endorse and support the peaceful and popular Iraqi revolution that began a month ago in various parts of our beloved Iraq. We affirm our support and we put our minds, hearts, pens and activities in its service. Our ultimate goal is to preserve the unity of Iraq, the dignity of its people and to work on rebuilding it, as it had always been since the dawn of history: a center of intellectual and civilization radiance. We believe that the Iraqi people with their glorious history can not submit to injustice, accept indignation, or recoil away from the region or the rest of the world.
For all these reasons, and inspired by the principles which made the people revolt in the squares of glory and dignity in various parts of Iraq, we agreed upon the formation of this committee, which includes branches in various parts of the world, to coordinate the efforts of supporting the peaceful popular Iraqi revolution and conveying its voice to the whole world through all available legal means.
The committee also supports the aspirations of demonstrators and protestors in implementing all their legitimate demands without compromise, fully and immediately; demands of constituting a government that respects people’s human rights of a free and dignified life. We also call upon all the demonstrations’ organizers to maintain them free from any sectarian, ethnic, tribal or political fundamentalism, especially as these demonstrations are based on the finest concepts and practices of true democracy in protesting and in speaking out for what they believe, practices that demonstrate our civil concepts and respect for one another, and our denouncement of the ideologies of hatred and revenge.
The Central Committee of Coordination considers all the suffering of the Iraqi people today: the humiliation and abuse at the hands of a government that is drenched in financial and administrative corruption, the regression in services and infrastructure that has hit rock bottom, the militarization of cities and civilians, the overcrowded prisons with the innocent and the conscientious patriots who experience abuse and brutal torture; all these abuses are considered as symptoms of a virtual disease that is decimating Iraq; a disease planted by the occupation that has no solution other than being removed out of the Iraqi body: namely the occupation’s Constitution and its futile political process which is based on sick concepts of retaliation, exclusion, marginalization, sectarian quotas and treacherous alliances that mortgaged the future of the great Iraq, its national unity, and its land and people, to the interests of foreign parties who are not interested in anything but truncating parts of the Iraqi body and shredding it.
Hence, we join the protestors' in all their demands, including: dropping the occupation-orchestrated constitution, rebuilding the national project that guarantees everyone’s rights, criminalizing sectarianism, founding a civil society, outlining clear and well-founded paths for national development, and creating a state that respects its people and is worthy of a civilized society and a great country like Iraq.
The Committee welcomes with no prior conditions all those who would like to join, who believe in its principles and practices, which are summarized briefly in the following points:
Firstly: The Committee work rests upon the following corner-stones:
- the sanctity of Iraq’s unity and the denial of all the projects and conspiracies of dividing it under any justification.
- the combating sectarianism and educating people of its risks in dismantling Iraq’s social fabric.
- prohibiting the spelling of the Iraqi blood and rejecting violence, hatred and revenge
- the absolute rejection of the occupation, its laws, systems, and regulations
- the absolute rejection of the constitution that was imposed on the people of Iraq under occupation and its implications.
- the absolute rejection of all policies of eradication and exclusion
Secondly: It expresses its support and solidarity with the uprising of the Iraqi people through all the available legal means, each one according to his expertise and abilities: by issuing statements, demonstrations, contacting the media, writing articles, seminars, meetings, and participation in conferences.
Thirdly: The Committee works through direct communication with the demonstrators assembled in their squares and seeks to endorse their determination and to convey their positions to the outside world.
Fourthly: The Committee seeks to shed light on the authorities’ attempts to bypass the demands of the demonstrators and the authoritarian practices of abuse against them as well as procrastination through false committees and mediation, or by misleading description of the demonstrations as sectarian.
Fifthly: The Committee works to enhance the international role in protecting human rights in Iraq. One of the priorities in this regard will be to convey the voice of Iraqi victims to the international community and the formal and informal assemblies in countries where its members are located and to demanding independent international investigations of all the violations that have taken place in Iraq since the invasion and occupation.
