Statement No. 870, in respect of the crime of government troops crime firing at demonstrators in Mosul.
Thanks be to God, and Prayers and Peace be upon His Prophet, His Family, His Followers and on All That Allied with Him:
Each passing day, the great Iraqi People prove that they are able to confront injustice and tyranny, and as such are out defending their revolution, demanding their usurped rights to freedom, justice and independence.
Every passing day, proves that the current government’s security forces are nothing but a machine used by the regime to suppress the people and assassinate its opponents; on Friday, these forces have committed yet another new crime against demonstrators in Ahrar Square in the center of Mosul, the Capital of Ninevah governorate, by firing at them, killing one of them and wounding a number of others causing some to be seriously wounded, while it further prevented ambulances from transporting the injured to hospitals.
Some unprecedented security measures consisting of large reinforcements from the Ministry of Interior, Intelligence and military forces were seen to be deployed in areas that have popular activism on ‘LAST CHANCE FRIDAY”; they barred entries and exits leading to and from these areas in an attempt to discourage demonstrators from reaching the mosques in which unified Friday prayers were being held.
The Association of Muslim Scholars condemns these heinous crimes and believes that the masses will, in the end, be victorious, with its patience and will power which will not break, and warns the current government and its security forces, against use of violence against the demonstrators. It also demands that this government halt the bloodshed and abandon using fire and brimstone when dealing with the demonstrators, and that it should respond to the demands of the people for recovering their rights.
It also appeals to world public opinion and the international community to raise its protests and condemnation of the murder of civilians in Iraq that is undertaken by governmental repressive institutions.
The Association emphasizes that the crowds that flocked to the sit – in squares in Iraq’s provinces, will choose the route along which they will proceed, and it is they who will retrieve their rights after paying such a heavy price.
