Militias in civilian clothes stormed the prison of Al-Taji

A group of police special forces in Iraq (SWAT) and militias in civilian clothes stormed the prison of Al-Taji yesterday, beat the prisoner with batons and electric sticks, injuring several of them badly, and insulting them by calling them humiliating names and sectarian swears. More importantly, they abducted 35 prisoners and took them to an unknown place.
The source, which preferred not to give its name, asked the international human rights organizations to do whatever they can to help the detainees and prisoners, especially the 35 who were abducted, and to hold the government responsible for their safety. The source also commented that this assault is part of the government’s attempt to subdue the demonstrations and the sit-in protest that is going on in many Iraqi cities for 20 days.
