Haider fumbles, Nouri plots
Vivian Salama (AP) reports on the Kurds "tenuous hold" on areas surrounding Mount Sinjar like Snuny, "The Kurds retook Snuny from the Sunni militants last month, but a weeks-old battle has reached a point of stalemate on the other side of the mountain for militant-held Sinjar. To the southeast, the oil-rich city of Kirkuk remains at risk of falling to the Islamic State group."
But the Kurdish Peshmerga need not worry, the cavalry is coming!
In about six months . . .
Asharq Al-Aswat explains:
Iraqi National Guard units will be formed within six months, Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi pledged on Saturday at an interfaith dialogue conference in Baghdad.
“The government is committed to forming a National Guard force within 6 months,” the prime minister said, highlighting the importance of the fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) “gang”.
So just hold on and know that help is coming . . . in six months.
When the units are formed.
And then give them a few more months for training.
Yet again, the US backed the wrong horse in Iraq.
And what about the previous one -- the one installed by Bully Boy Bush in 2006 and the one US President Barack Obama demanded get a second term in 2010 despite the loss of the 2010 elections?
Thug Nouri never goes away -- no matter how much penicillin you use.
AP's teasing an interview they just did with him. More will come later in the day. But a three paragraph highlights has Nouri insisting he's not attempting to return as prime minister.
If that's what he says, then surely that's the truth.
His word means so much, right?
Like in February 2011, when he told protesters that if they would go home, he would end corruption in 100 days?
And he never did.
Or what about his February 2011 promise in an AFP interview of how he would not seek a third term as prime minister?
From April to the start of August, what was Nouri insisting?
Oh, yeah that his third term had begun.
What about the November 2010 Erbil Agreement which wasn't just a promise but a legal contract he put his name to and then refused to honor?
We could go down his list of promises all the way back to 2006.
Nouri's word doesn't mean a damn thing.
In fact, if he swears he's not attempting a coup, a safe bet would be that he is attempting a coup and that the proof is in his denial.
