Iraqi military abandons Anbar military base
CNN (link is text and video) reports a major upset in Anbar Province today where the Iraqi forces have abandoned a military base "outside the city of Hit." The Iraqi military remains at the Ramadi base; however, National Iraqi News Agency reports that Anbar police earlier transferred 82 people suspected of being Islamic State members "from prisons of Ramadi and Khalidiya to Baghdad." Meanwhile IANS notes, "The Iraqi defence ministry Monday denied the reported presence of Islamic State (IS) militants in Abu Ghraib area near Baghdad international airport, stressing that security is under control."
Barack's 'plan' continues to fail.
This as conflicting reports about Turkey's participation in the 'plan' continue. In this morning'sNew York Times, Eric Schmitt and Kirk Semple note, "Turkey will allow American and coalition troops to use its bases, including a key installation within 100 miles of the Syrian border, for operations against Islamic State militants in Syria and Iraq, Defense Department officials said Sunday."
However, i24 News and AFP report:
Turkey has denied reports that they had reached an agreement to let the United States use its Incirlik air base for operations against Islamic State militants in Syria.
Sources at the Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's office have said that talks on the subject are continuing.
In other news, NINA notes 1 corpse was discovered in Husseiniya (gunshot wounds), 1 person was shot dead in Baghdad, 2 bombs "near Baquba, north of the Edhaym Dam" killed 2 Iraqi soldiers and left four more injured, and "15 civlians and policemen were killed and injured" in a Kirkuk motorcycle bombing.
