As confirmed by a high ranking officer in the former Iraqi Air Force, 28 Czech aircraft purchased by Maliki's government have failed to function properly and proven totally useless.
Turkish warplanes flew into Iraqi airspace after midnight last night in the northernmost province of Dahuk, bombing a number of border villages for over two hours as part of an ongoing campaign under the pretense of pursuing elements of the PKK – the casualties and damage caused by the shelling are not known. An explosivedevice went off in the south of Kirkuk, injuring two civilians. Gunmen opened fire ona civilian in the northeast of Baquba with silenced weapons, killing him on the spot. Afarmer was killed in an armed attack near his home in the northeast of Baquba. A carbomb exploded in downtown Kirkuk and damaged a number of markets. Two workers,drilling an oil well, were killed and seriously wounded by the explosion of a landminenortheast of the city of Amarah. An explosive device blew up in a crowded market inthe northeast of Baghdad, killing at least one civilian and injuring six others.
An officer (lieutenant colonel) in the Ministry of Internal Affairs was exposed to an assassination attempt as an explosive device blew up in his car in central Tikrit, causing material damage but no injuries. Another officer (captain) in the Ministry of Internal Affairs was killed in an armed attack near his home in the north of Mosul, and his son, standing near him, was injured – the men opened fire with automatic
weapons and got away after killing the officer on the spot.
Men traveling in a civilian car fired with silenced weapons at a policecheckpoint in the west of Baghdad, killing two of the governmental policeman on thespot and getting away. An explosive device targeted a governmental army patrol inthe southwest of Baquba, severely injuring one of them – the same happened to a different patrol in the south of Mosul. In the west of Mosul, men on foot fired on a
police checkpoint with silenced weapons, killing one of the governmental police and managing to escape. Seven mortar shells hit a police directorate building in the west of Ar-Ramadi – the wounding of two of the governmental police was confirmed, although more were possibly killed and wounded. The building was damaged as well along with a number of government vehicles of the directorate.
As part of an ongoing campaign against the civilian population...thegovernment forces carried out a series of searches and raids in residentialneighborhoods in Mosul for several hours this evening, detaining 12 civilians withoutcharges and taking them to unknown destinations, after smashing down their doorsand storming their houses. The government issued death sentences against threedetainees in Baghdad, as part of an ongoing campaign of arbitrary and ruthlessexecutions.
